Employment

Most of the trades and job openings available at Bardeaux Lajoie can be learned as on-the-job training, practical training working as an apprentice. Experienced employees are glad to share their knowledge with new employees and integrate them into work teams.

 

The duration of different practical trainings vary from one job to the next; it all depends on the type of work and the experience of the apprentice.

 

Trades

 

Sharpener-Liner

The sharpener-liner is responsible for the maintenance of all saws and knives used to cut the wood.

Training

Three-year on-the-job training. Support available from Emploi-Québec toward the completion of a GED degree in sharpening or a vocational training with follow-up and specialization at the plant.

Log Splitter (Bolter)

The splitter, also known as a log bucker or bolter, takes 2.5 meters (8 feet) logs and carries them inside using a chain conveyor. He or she is responsible for cutting 40 centimeter (16 inches) bolt wood into logs. He then feeds the logs to various cedar equipment based on a specific order.

Saw Miller

The cedar saw miller saws and classifies shingles based on specific quality criteria.

One year and a half on-the-job training

Bundler

The task of the bundler is to verify the classification of shingles and to pack them ready for shipment.

Rotary Loader Driver (Loader)

Driving heavy equipment and operating the necessary controls to perform loading work and snow removal operations.

GED – Heavy Machinery Operator

Production Line Day Labourer

Works on the automated production line while ensuring its proper operation. Tasks are varied as the day labourer frequently changes station.

Yard Labourer (Peeler)

Remove bark from cedar logs to feed the plant, operate equipment controls.
